As an integrated response to the major contemporary global challenges, including food security, environmental sustainability, efficient management of natural resources, technological innovation and the protection of human health, the “Agri Research and Teaching Center” of Campus Bio-Medico was established. It is conceived as an advanced innovation hub and a distinctive model of strategic facility, representing one of the first productive applications of this model in Europe. In an increasingly complex and interconnected context, it is necessary to adopt models capable of simultaneously addressing these critical issues, according to a systemic vision linked to the One Health paradigm, which connects the environment, human beings and production systems. It’s within this framework that the Agri Research and Teaching Center takes shape, as an integral part of the Social Green Masterplan, conceived as an evolved ecosystem integrating research, healthcare, education and environmental sustainability. The hub is designed as a multifunctional high-tech infrastructure, offering integrated pathways of interest for various research fields. It aligns with the bio-innovation sector in terms of sustainable sourcing and enhancement of biological resources, maximized through engineering and AI applications. The multifunctional greenhouse, together with its experimental laboratory, is designed as an open hub according to the principles of energy security: a space where universities, research centers, and companies meet and build concrete synergies. The infrastructure is conceived as an integrated ecosystem where agriculture, biotechnology and engineering coexist harmoniously. It fosters a multidisciplinary environment capable of hosting biotechnologists, agronomists, physicians, pharmacologists, computer scientists, students, researchers and start-ups engaged in theses, experimental projects, corporate programs, hackathons, international cooperation initiatives and shared applied research within a multi-interdisciplinary and collaborative environment.
